Amanda Manitach The Sea Will Tell You Things

Dress Rehearsals For The Future, graphite on paper, 51 x 51 inches, 2023

Created for the exhibit “Surge” at Museum of Northwest Art, this piece was made in collaboration with climate change scientist Guillaume Mauger. The cartographic rendering merges past and future, referencing both a 1894 map of Skagit County and data from the Skagit Climate Science Consortium used to project the area that will be impacted by a major flood scenario in the year 2080 (taking into account a projected 32% increase in the 100-year flood and a 29-inch rise in sea level).
